Humanitarian Efforts
On behalf of the E&E RPCV community, the board has created the following list of charitable organizations that will accept donations on behalf of refugees and internally displaced people, with the current focus being the region of Tigray, Ethiopia. Being named to the list does not constitute an endorsement of one organization over another. We have vetted the organizations to the best of our ability and welcome further recommendations to this list.

Doctors Without Borders/Medecins Sans Frontieres
An independent, global movement providing medical aid where it is needed most (webpage).

Ethiopia Community Development Council
ECDC was established in 1983 as a non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) community-based organization to respond to the needs of a growing Ethiopian community both in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and across the United States.
Since its founding, ECDC has served newcomers representing diverse cultural backgrounds from around the world. Working locally, regionally and nationally, ECDC is a domestic, non-governmental organization authorized by the U.S. Department of State to resettle refugees. Our public education program aims to increase awareness within the wider community and among mainstream organizations about issues of concern to the newcomer community, and to African refugees and immigrants (from the webpage).
ECDC currently has a campaign that directly addresses the conflict in Tigray.
International Committee on the Red Cross (ICRC)
In Ethiopia, the ICRC protects detainees, restores family links, provides physical rehabilitation and works with the Ethiopian Red Cross (web page).
The ICRC has had restricted access to provide services to the population in Mekelle

International Rescue Committee
The International Rescue Committee helps people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover and regain control of their future (from the webpage). IRC personnel are currently working in four refugee camps in the Shire area in Tigray.

Norwegian Refugee Council
The Norwegian Refugee Council is an independent humanitarian organisation helping people forced to flee. We work in crises in more than 30 countries, where we help save lives and rebuild futures. (website).
NRC has an office in Addis Ababa and has a significant presence in Ethiopia. It is currently providing services in the refugee camps in Sudan.

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is a global organization dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights and building a better future for refugees, forcibly displaced communities and stateless people (Webpage).
A full-scale humanitarian crisis is unfolding as thousands of refugees flee ongoing fighting in Ethiopia’s Tigray region to seek safety in eastern Sudan.
