Tigray School Reconstruction

Donate Now

After the breakout of ethnic conflict and mass suffering in Tigray, our organization initiated a campaign to raise funds to help war victims and refugees. We partnered with Save the Children (STC), Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF), and the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in this endeavor. As the fighting spread to other regions, we expanded the campaign to include other regions in which these NGOs worked. Ultimately, thanks to your extraordinary generosity, we collected almost $50,000 to help the people of Ethiopia.

In late 2023, we received a special request from Save the Children for help in funding the reconstruction of nine damaged schools, two health facilities in Tigray. It is an ambitious project, funded in large part by the estate of Mimi O’Hagan, a philanthropist who spent many years in the province, working on education, health and other projects. We recently met with STC staff in the US and Ethiopia on Zoom. They told us that since the November 2022 peace agreement, conditions have improved, allowing them to move ahead with plans to rehabilitate these schools and health stations. Click here to view a detailed description of the project, its funding, and budget.

We think this reconstruction project deserves our support. Our fund drive for this project will be for a limited time to meet the STC December 1st target date for donor pledges. That deadline will enable them to begin reconstruction in early 2024, so this fund drive will end on Nov. 27, 2023.

Please donate by the Nov. 27th deadline, either by credit card or check. Make your credit card donation here. For donations by mail, send your check to:
